Welcome to the new look AutoSpeed!

On our 8th birthday we’ve decided to make a range of major changes that will benefit you, the reader. You can already see our crisp new look – our most major styling overhaul ever.

But we’ve also implemented changes in content.

In short, we’ll be giving you more of what you want. From now on there’ll be more hands-on tech, more DIY tech and more background stories on car engineering and technology. We’ll be driving even more cars – both new and used – and we’ll wind back the stories on modified cars high in bling but nothing else.

Julian Edgar will be increasing his contribution while Michael Knowling will be concentrating on what he does best – driving interesting cars.

As part of our new tech approach, we’ll modify a mainstream (and cheap!) project car – a 5-speed EF Falcon. We’ll be changing the intake, fitting extractors and an exhaust, bolting-in a new cam and playing with the engine management. Then, not content with that, we’ll be upgrading the brakes and doing a complete suspension job. And they’ll be lessons that can be applied to any car.

But we also won’t step away from doing the technically unique modifications that lead the world: amongst many others of the last few years, electronically modifying power steering assistance, trialling aerodynamic vortex generators, and tweaking hybrid cars.

Reader feedback? More of it than ever! In addition to writing to us with comments and suggestions, you can now give instant feedback on each story with just a single click. To fine-tune the content still further, we’ll be closely watching these story ratings.

And we’ve also made another major change to content presentation. For years it’s been an increasing concern to us that the vast majority of our readers aren’t aware of the depth of content that we have available. After all, unless you’ve been a subscriber for 8 years and have read every one of our 3000+ articles, there are literally hundreds of good articles you’ve never seen. To redress this, we’ve decided to present specific articles again, revising them where necessary. (And so that everyone’s happy, we’ll extend all current new content subscriptions to take this into account – subscribers will be sent an email about this.)

With a new look, content that provides more of what you want, and quicker and easier reader feedback, we’re looking forward to the next 8 years!
