I found this article at autospeed.com and thought you might be interested in reading it: 'Relocating the Battery' - Sending the battery down the other end. There are three primary reasons why you might want to move the battery from under the bonnet to the other end of the car. It could be because you'd like to have a larger battery (for better starting, or for running a big sound system); it could be because you want to improve weight distribution (most front-engined cars are at least a little nose-heavy); or it could be because of the reason that we are making the move for here. And what's that? - to create more room under the bonnet. In this case we needed to fit in an air/air intercooler - and it went right where the battery used to sit.
