Mapped Water Injection
Just a
thought - could you extend the water injection article to include water flow
adjustability according to rpm (water injection working like fuel
computer). I thought this would be a good idea as your current systems
inject the same amount of water over the whole rev range where it should vary in
flow according to the amount of air being
inducted.

The Digital Pulse Adjuster project that we have
covered can be configured to pulse a water solenoid and then be mapped to
control water injection on the basis of load (using the injector duty cycle as
the load input).
Ride/Handling 1
Read with interest 'Driving Emotion" of
10th March. Yes, I regard the Austin in high regard too, the QUESTION is what
current car has this magic mix ride/handling, I would like to know what make
model on the market has a mind-blowing combo.

None that we know of.
Ride/Handling 2
Just wanted to say that I completely agree with
Julian Edgar's observations about the "modern" perverse fashion for hard riding
cars. It is also worth noting that the real world road holding ability of
such vehicles is compromised by their lack of compliance. Notable exceptions to
the bad design trend are the Focus Zetec (lower and firmer but better riding
than the Focus CL - go figure!) and the Mazda RX8 - a revelation of what a
suspension can do.

Torque Increase?
In reference to the article Turbo Diesel Hilux Power!, what would the approx torque increase be over the
standard vehicle?
Jason Parker

In any car, if the power at a certain engine
speed increases by 10 per cent, so does the torque at that engine speed.
Therefore, simply look at how much power increased at the different revs and you
can immediately see what the torque increase was.
Measuring Resistors
Re:
Building Electronic Car Kits. Having just read this article I must say well
done. A well put together article, covering most of the basics. There is
one thing that I feel was missed. It should be noted to any readers out
there that are real beginners at building electronic kits (first timers
especially), that when measuring the resistors you must not hold the resistor
leads with your fingers. When I was completing my electrical engineering degree
I was a tutor in a lab session, and it was surprising to find out how many of
these (2nd year) students would do this and then wonder why some of the
resistances were significantly different to what they were supposed to be
(colour bands).

Would you consider
doing some articles on used Audi A4's, I own a lovely 98 1.8T Audi A4 Quattro,
and I think they are a excellent all-round car if you take into consideration
their tuning potential with the 1.8T engine. I mean all wheel drive, turbo
engine, weight similar to later model WRX, sports suspension, better looking,
classy and more original to own than WRX, though not as full on sports car as
WRX, still a nice blend with luxury. From what I've seen similar prices to buy
used WRX also.

I read your article on building electrical kits
with great interest - having just purchased one of the simple voltage switches,
intending to run my new thermofans with it. As it is, I have scrapped that idea
and instead want to use the voltage kit to control a thermofan on a transmission
cooler I'm fitting. Since the hose to and from the transmission is only 3/8th,
it is too small to stick a standard temp probe in - eg a Davies Craig style
thermo switch probe. Could I use a thermocouple stuck in the fins of the cooler,
connected to the voltage kit - or must there be some translation between the
thermocouple output and the voltage switch input?
PS - don't take any bs about the old/new article
mix - almost every one put up so far has been something I’ve never read or read
and forgotten - and if they're put up then you must think they have relevance -
so I'll read them!

A thermistor can be stuck in the fins of the
oil cooler – the Temperature Switch version of the Voltage Switch kit comes
complete with the right components.
Steering Techniques
The issue 422
article on steering is misleading. I also believed in your recommended method but watching Neil Bates drive his car on the limit made me think. Then I started
experimenting and now I am push pull convert. Your method is good for race cars
with direct steering. Push pull is used by world’s best stunt drivers and they
are sideways all day. It makes lot of sense to have designed areas for left and
right hand and not to cross them. Changing direction is much smoother and car
control much better. I very rarely disagree with your opinions but this time you should publish a correction after you test the push pull for yourself.
