Re Ford Hidden Data
Regarding Ben's letter about the instrument diagnostics for the EF Ford
Falcon - see Response... A description of the modes can be
foundat www.fordmods.com. Free registration for the site may be
needed to view the document, but it is quite worthwhile to do so - there are heaps of other
tipsand tricks
there.

ADR 27A Standards
Re your article Emissions Regulations - Part One...
ADR27A did have
emission standards. ADR27A
states a maximum of
2.1g/km hydrocarbons, 24.2g/km carbon monoxide, 1.9g/km oxides of nitrogen and 6.0g evap test. PCV, EGR, evap
emission controls were all just a way of passing the standards.

One-Way Valve Search
You certainly like a challenge - as indicated with your Prius project. Would you be able to tell me where you
sourced that
one-way valve you used in
the fuel system for the Prius? (The Story of Turbo'ing a Hybrid Prius, Part 4) Do you have a part
number?
Tony Goodlich
Australia
The one-way valve used is a 5/16 inch in-line aluminium bodied valve from
South Coast Diesel Injection (+61 7 55325427). Cost is AUD$20.
Another LPG Injector Source
I was reading the first bit of Response
and saw that Peter de Vries is after some LPG injectors for
his BMW. We might
be able to help
out - our website is
www.profire.com.au.

Audi Octane
A short question from
your AudiA4
S-Line article (New Car Test - Audi A4 S-Line )...
Why is it essential that you use 98
RON fuel? Is it an absolute must as you will
otherwise destroy the engine or is it only to get the max power out of the engine?
Thomas Soerensen
Denmark
Audi literature states that 98 RON fuel should be used but if it isn't available,
you can use 95 RON. Power output will be slightly reduced. In emergency
situations, 91 RON fuel can be used. So, essentially, the extra fuel octane is
to achieve maximum performance -
but we’re not sure what would happen with your
warranty if the engine failed while running normal unleaded...
Water Injection for Carby Engines
Would it be possible to include an article
on water injection kits for carby cars? Or, if
you already have one,
could please notify me of
where it is?
Josh Bragg

If you haven’t already, have a look at Water Injection. We haven’t detailed
water injection specifically for carby cars.
Tapering Exhaust Diameter?
In the article The Cheapest Exhaust You've Ever Heard Of, Part 2 you write "Given that less pipe diameter is needed as you go towards
the rear of the
car, the use of press bends (rather than continuing with
mandrel bends) wasn’t a problem".
You never mentioned this concept before. I always thought and read that, because gas speed is reduced at
the end of the system,
pipe diameter has
to be bigger if
anything at the end.Can
you please explain a bit further?
Lex van Opstal
Netherlands
We have raised this idea in the article
Out the Exhaust - Part Two. Reducing pipe dimeter toward the end of the system
is common practice in many factory exhaust
systems and the superb Air Power Systems
(APS) aftermarket exhausts. Good enough for
us!
NZ DFA Install and Tune
Is there an agent in
New Zealand to buy from
and install the Digital
Fuel Adjuster (DFA)? And
who do I talk to about the benefits of it – power, economy, etc?
Barrie Keall
New Zealand
There are no allocated agents but any competent tuning workshop should be
able to install and tune the DFA. The gains from fitment of this product will
largely depend on how rich the car is currently running and how lean you’re
willing to tune it!
How Many Cams?
I read your article Practical Performers - Part One
and now plan to buy a Nissan Maxima. In the article you
say it is quad-cam
but on top of the engine it says twin-cam.
What is going on???
Christen Rasmussen
Australia
Each cylinder head has twin camshafts and the VQ30DE has two cylinder
heads, which means there’s a total of four camshafts.Good luck with your new
buy!
